The African Institute for Research and Sustainable Development (AIRSD) is a Pan-African Institute that conceptualised after years of research within the African development sector. This research identified key gaps such as Poor leadership, Lack of capacity and misplaced priorities, Unavailability of reliable specific Health related quality data on specific key populations, Poor legal reforms especially reform of punitive laws such as laws that discriminate people on the basis of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), Poor infrastructure, Unavailability of sustainable resources and economic opportunities for sustained livelihoods.

AIRSD is registered as Non Profit Making organisation (NPC) in South Africa registration number 2018/001003/08 and currently in the process to register in Malawi as non-profit making organisation. The organisation shall have its headquarters in Johannesburg and Institute of sustainable Development offices in Lilongwe (Malawi). The organisation will also register regional offices in Kenya-Nairobi (East African Region) and Senegal-Dakar (North and Central African Region) The Institute of Sustainable Development shall seek accreditation with Malawi Ministry of Education and also collaborate with international Universities when offering development related courses.
